Features
As a champagne-dedicated venue, Winnifred’s is a first not only for Brisbane, but perhaps for Australia.
Housing 15,000 bottles from 63 different growers and grandes marques, the venue helps people better understand regional champagne and all the different producers.
Founder Megan Nunn named the venue after her grandmother Winnifred Barrett, who welcomed everyone into her home. When Nunn visited Champagne, she felt that same warmth from local producers, and it’s a feeling she has re-created at Winnifred’s.
If warmth is the first impression, the second is the design. Nunn worked with architect Tim Stewart and Bespoke Constructions to create a two-storey space that feels both grand and intimate. Think recycled brick, warm lighting and natural timber finishes.
There’s an 18-seat champagne bar, a champagne garden, a 60-seat bistro and two private rooms. An open kitchen sits in the bistro, where Brittany-born chef Antoine Potier (ex- Restaurant Dan Arnold) serves French classics with a twist: beef tartare with bone marrow; quail with mushrooms and foie gras sauce; and quality seafood.
The bar menu is more concise, with oysters and charcuterie to accompany your bubbles. It’s perfect for drop-in visits.
