Seven To Try: The Best Hot Cross Buns in Perth in 2026

Perth’s bakers have ensured there’s a hot cross bun out there for all tastes. From time-honoured classics to modern interpretations stuffed with chocolate spreads and silky custards, here – in alphabetical order – are the seven best hot cross buns in Perth.
Croff Bakehouse, Perth CBD
Croff’s yeast-leavened buns put a slight spin on the classics. Traditional buns are flavoured with cinnamon and raisins, or if you’re not one for tradition, there’s a gooey chocolate lava bun. They’re available at both Croff locations to buy in-store or for pre-order online.
Cinnamon raisin buns are $3 each or four for $11. Chocolate lava hot cross buns are $3.50 each or four for $13.
Dough Street, Balcatta
Doughstreet ups the ante with some seriously high quality buns this Easter. Its hot cross buns are flavoured with cinnamon, nutmeg and clove, and enriched with butter, then slow-fermented for a soft and bouncy texture. There are traditional buns and chocolate buns; the choccy hot cross bun base is also used to make the bakery’s filled buns, with oozy pistachio, Bueno or Nutella inside. There’s also a Mini Egg-topped hot cross bun if you prefer to take your Easter treats stacked.
$4.90 each for a bun, or $6.50 each for a filled or Mini Egg-topped bun.
Everyday Bread, Hamilton Hill
These hot cross buns are for the purists. No crossover creations, no sickly-sweet fillings – just a well-executed classic. At Everyday Bread, it’s all about quality ingredients and expert technique. Light, fragrant and packed with fruit, these golden buns sell out fast, so plan accordingly.
Six for $22.
Grain Bakery, Shenton Park and Lathlain
Grain Bakery is serving up four HCBs this year. There’s a traditional bun, of course, and then a sweeter bun with a chocolate dough and choc-chips. Then, for the real hardcore sweet tooths, there are chocolate buns piped full of rich pistachio spread and Ferrero Rocher-inspired hazelnut cream.
$3.50 each for traditional and chocolate hot cross buns, or $4.50 each for a filled bun. Six packs of the traditional and chocolate buns are $18; filled buns are $25 for six.
Miller & Baker, Perth CBD
At Miller & Baker, there’s no room for second-rate baking. It’s an ethos emblazoned on the bakery’s boxes with the phrase, “Life’s too short for bad buns”. The Easter staple is made with house-milled flour, with each studded with plump dried fruit, cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg.
$4.50 each or six for $25.
Side Piece Deli, Swanbourne
It’s hot, it’s crossed, it’s a … scroll. Side Piece Deli is putting a twist on Easter this year. Rich, buttery brioche dough is filled with vanilla custard and twisted into a scroll. The scrolls are then filled with either soaked fruit or rich dark chocolate. They’re crunchy, golden and iced with a cross.
$6.50 each or six for $30.
Teeter Bakery, Perth
Teeter is one of Perth’s best bakeries, so it goes without saying that its seasonal Easter treats are topnotch. Plump raisins and currants are steeped in Earl Grey tea before being added to a mix of orange puree, butter, eggs and freshly ground spices. Baker Natasha Brownfield uses tangzhong, a Chinese flour paste to keep her buns soft and fluffy. At Teeter, each bun is cut and shaped by hand into the perfect orb, then baked with love. You can add cultured Pepe Saya butter for $6.50 to make the experience even richer.
$5 each or six for $28.
