Four To Try: Melbourne’s Best Easter Eggs
Words by Audrey Payne · Updated on 25 Mar 2026 · Published on 25 Mar 2026
With all the attention hot cross buns get, it's easy to forget about another Easter treat: chocolate eggs. This year, some of Melbourne’s great chocolate makers and gelaterias are putting their own spin on the classic.
Hunted & Gathered
Melbourne chocolate company Hunted & Gathered has a number of Easter treats – all made by hand in small batches at the brand’s Cremorne factory using certified organic ingredients. There’s a 60 per cent dark chocolate hot cross bun bar with warm spices, toasted almond, candied orange, raisins and vanilla. Plus, white, milk or dark chocolate eggs that come hollow or filled with praline.
Mork Chocolate
When it opened in 2012, Josefin Zernell and Kiril Shaginov’s Mork wanted to elevate hot chocolate’s reputation to the same level as specialty coffee, with a focus on traceability and quality. It’s since turned its refined eye to other chocolate products, including its 2026 Easter range. Chicken egg-sized chocolates come in four flavours – matcha, gold, milk tea and passion – each with distinct fillings. The pick of the bunch is the milk tea, filled with hojicha-infused salted caramel, gianduja cream and buckwheat shortbread. There’s also a large golden emu egg: a milk chocolate shell filled with roasted macadamia gianduja, a honey ganache with pepperberry and lemon myrtle and honey-roasted macadamias, and finished with gold leaf.
Pidapipo
One of the city’s best gelaterias also makes some of the best chocolate around. This year, Lisa Valmorbida’s Pidapipo is hand-crafting Easter eggs at its Fitzroy Laboratorio. There are small and medium dark and milk chocolate eggs. Plus, tins with three types of filled-chocolate eggs: dark chocolate with peppermint white chocolate ganache; milk chocolate with caramel milk chocolate ganache; and white chocolate with matcha white chocolate ganache.
Piccolina
Sandra Foti’s Piccolina is making gelato versions of Easter eggs again this year. A brownie cheesecake egg is a milk chocolate shell filled with cheesecake gelato mixed with house-made brownie pieces and vanilla crumble with a milk chocolate ganache “yolk”. A triple-chocolate egg is a dark chocolate shell filled with milk chocolate gelato mixed with house-made brownie pieces, with a dark chocolate ganache centre. And a Snickers take sees a caramelised white chocolate shell filled with peanut butter gelato mixed with dark chocolate shards and house-made peanut nougat, finished with a caramel ganache centre.
