At Soon-to-Open Boutique Hotel Melbourne Place, Expect Top Chefs and Design-Forward Digs

Hotly anticipated design-driven boutique hotel Melbourne Place will open in October on Russell Street in the CBD. And it won’t just appeal to out-of-towners: its drinking and dining venues are set to be hot tickets for both Melburnians and visitors.

As previously announced, Sydney duo chef-restaurateur Ross Lusted and restaurateur Sunny Lusted will launch a restaurant and a basement bar within the Melbourne Place precinct, both inspired by the Iberian coastline and Melbourne’s European-style feel and markets. The Lusteds are known for celebrated, now-closed fine diner The Bridge Room, and monumental Crown Sydney restaurant Woodcut.

“We lived in Europe for quite a long time. And I think travelling down to Melbourne echoes a lot of that,” Sunny told Broadsheet in May.

Meanwhile, Nicholas Deligiannis, the former head chef of Scott Pickett restaurants Audrey’s Sorrento and Estelle, will oversee the rest of the hotel’s culinary program, including its room service and events menus, and Mid Air, a 12th-floor rooftop restaurant.

The lush Melbourne Place hotel will have 191 rooms over 14 levels, decorated in warm, earthy tones and luxurious materials. Some rooms will boast deep bathtubs or balconies, while all have a free minibar (excluding alcohol).

Bookings are now open for Melbourne Place, which will open in October 2024.
