Features
With a fourteen-page wine list dominated by riesling, you won’t be mistaken in thinking you’re at Rizla for any other reason. This convivial corner nook is all about the stuff.
Owner Andy Day’s devotion to the “queen of grapes” has earned Rizla some hefty accolades. But a general rule of no snobbery sets the tone for both riesling lovers and the first-time drinkers, who benefit equally from the Rizla team’s deep knowledge of the daily-changing wine list of iconic and emerging producers from around the world.
The team is also passionate about the marriage of wine and food, and the kitchen serves share plates touching on the cuisines of Europe, Southeast Asia and Central America. You might pair tuna tartare with a dry local drop, or a hearty mushroom and chevre pappardelle with something from the cellared list.
Inhabiting a small footprint with only a handful of seats inside, you’ll most likely be drinking and dining on the sun-soaked corner facing out onto bustling Lonsdale Street. Dense potted greenery provides summer shade and heaters and blankets ward off winter chill, making Rizla a year-round outdoor venue.
