The Matildas Share Their Favourite Cafes and Restaurants in Sydney and Surrounds
You beauty! After a 2–1 defeat of China this week, the Matildas are preparing for the Women’s Asian Cup final this weekend. Goals from Caitlin Foord and Sam Kerr secured the semi-final win – and they’ll play Japan for the crown at Sydney’s Stadium Australia on Saturday March 21. Ahead of the decider, they shared their favourite cafes and restaurants in Sydney with Destination NSW – here are all their picks.
Caitlin Foord, forward
Cafe: The Hungry Monkey in Kiama
Restaurant: “Besides my mum’s cooking, I think it’s a chicken schnitzel, chips, with gravy from the pub.”
Alanna Kennedy, defender
Cafe: XS Espresso (Sydney-wide) or Gather Coffee in Appin
Restaurant: “I love a Crust Pizza, extra peri peri sauce.”
Amy Sayer, midfielder
Cafe: Dose in Willoughby
Restaurant: “Anything cooked by my mum or anything in Chatswood.”
Remy Siemsen, forward
Cafe: Barrel One in Brookvale – for the “best bagels and coffee in town” – and Noon in Manly.
Restaurant: “Honestly, I love a pub. As soon as I go home I’m like, ‘Mum and Dad, we’re going to the pub’. The Skiff Club in Manly, it’s beautiful, right on the water – great steaks at that pub.”
Clare Hunt, defender
Cafe: Gather on the Green in Camperdown
Restaurant: “A trip to Totti’s is quite nice, a bit of Italian.”
