Banana Boogie Bakery is home to some of the best baked goods in Australia – officially.
In 2023, Jason and Kelly Spencer’s Belair bakery took out Australia’s best sausage roll and best hot cross bun at the South Australian and Victorian baking shows, respectively. It also won best plain mince pie at Australia’s Best Pie and Pastie competition in Sydney, and took out third place at the Great Australian Vanilla Slice Triumph in Merbein, Victoria.
If this slew of awards isn’t enough to convince you that this place is worth a visit, consider the shop itself: a fun space with bright yellow accents, camouflage art by designer Matt Stucky, banana logos by designer Joel van der Knaap, handwritten chalkboard signs by artist Jake Holmes, and a tiled mosaic by street artist Tyler Mario. Combined with some upbeat tunes, the place feels more like a destination than your standard grab-and-run bakery.
Back to the menu, the cabinets are heaving with sweet and savoury treats. You can expect around 14 different pie varieties (think loaded nacho; chicken and broccoli; and a Biscoff number), huge doughnuts (including a doughnut of the day), laminations with a twist and standard-but-better bits like bread loaves and lunch rolls.
